Adult Novice Rowing Accepting New Members

The Marin Masters Novice Team will be accepting new rowers for several weeks following the conclusion of our Autumn racing season.

The open sessions for aspiring new members will be from 530-730AM on:

Tuesday November 16

Monday November 22

Tuesday November 23

These are land based sessions appropriate for anyone with zero rowing experience.  All team practices are open for observers for one month, starting November 15th.  The current novice team has 25 members with an average experience level of about six months (novice rowing  eligibility lasts two years).  Aspiring new members will be held to a fitness standard in order to be considered for membership.  This standard is primarily evaluated on a spin bike (secondarily on a Concept II rowing ergometer) and is age and weight handicapped.

Qualitatively, new members must demonstrate sufficient commitment to learn on-the-water technique and protocol necessary to blend in with existing team members. On average, this would mean attending 12 or more rows (team practices or day-time private lessons) in your first month.

You can still join the team even if you can’t make the listed land sessions.  Please contact coach Felix Meier (felix@marinrowing.org) to arrange a visit during a different practice or to learn more about the fitness standard. The weekday practice schedule will vary week to week but will always be between 530-730AM.  Sunday practice is offered every week from 7-915AM.

Observation sessions are free and land sessions are subject to a $0-10 sliding scale fee.
