Marin Rowing Association desires that no one be deprived of the opportunity to row due to financial concerns. To this end, Marin Rowing has secured scholarship funds to help cover the costs of camp participation. Contact Morgan at morgan@marinrowing.org for a financial aid application.
Swim Requirement:
Marin Rowing Association requires that all summer campers know how to swim.
California Law requires that campers under the age of 13 wear an approved life jacket. Marin Rowing will supply an appropriate life jacket for these campers.
What to bring with you to camp:
Water bottle, with your name on it, that you can take in the boat with you.
Snack bars
Hat or visor, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
What to wear for camp:
Fitted athletic apparel. (Oversized clothes and long shorts and shirts get caught in the wheels and can cause injury.)
Socks and closed-toed exercise shoes.
Please label any items that might get left behind (Hats, water bottles, jackets)
What to Expect at Camp:
When you arrive, we will meet in the parking lot near the front door. Coach will take roll at the start of camp, so plan to arrive a few minutes early.
Learn to Row: Day 1 All athletes on land. Staff introduction, boat house tour, learning to safely handle equipment, learning the basic rowing stroke on the rowing machine and the dock box (boat placed on the dock so campers can practice getting in and out, and take rowing strokes).
Learn to Row: Days 2 - 5 Half of camp time will be on land continuing to develop basic movements on the rowing machine. The other half of camp is on the water applying the learned skills to move the boat efficiently. Time on the water will increase through the week.
Continuing Skills: Day 1 All athletes will start with a short lesson on the rowing machines. Then coaches will assign rowers to seats in the boats and the rest of the day will be spent on the water.
Continuing Skills: Day 2 - 5: Athletes are on the water using drills to learn to move the boat efficiently.
Note!
Rowing is a highly physical sport. Participants will need to lift and carry the equipment, including boats and oars, from the boathouse to and from the water.
Rowing is an outdoor watersport, and therefore weather permitting at times. If our coaching staff feels that the waterway is not safe for rowing at any time, they will hold practice on-land. Marin Rowing has an outstanding facility capable of teaching rowing without being on the water.
